Ince Church of England Primary School ‘Inspire, Nurture, Challenge, Enrich’

How does Ince CE help children when they move schools?

Our Foundation Stage staff and our SENDCo, Mrs Darbyshire share information with the nurseries and the Wigan Early Years Access and Inclusion Team at termly meetings and on an individual basis.

We have a transition fortnight at the end of the summer term where children are prepared for the next school year and work with the staff, avoiding anxiety in the summer holidays and enabling a smooth start in the next year group.  The new Reception and Nursery children also come to various sessions during this fortnight to help them settle in to our school environment.  Then, when we start the new school year in September, parents are invited to a "Welcome to the Year Group" meeting which are held for each year group.

On joining or leaving the school mid year, our SENDCo, Mrs Darbyshire and Pastoral Manager, Mrs Banks will have a meeting with you.  Any SEND information will be shared with their past or new school.

At the end of their primary school life, children move to different high schools.  This move is carefully planned and the Year 6 teachers and Mrs Darbyshire meet with the Year 7 Heads of Year and SENDCo's from the new schools.

We arrange many visits to the local high schools and have a Year 6+ fortnight where we support the children in moving on to the next stage in their school life.

Thank you to Sean Perkins, a local author, who came into school today and read his book "Mr Bread Head" to some of our children. You can find photographs of this on our school Facebook page.
